Wellntel Announces Major Platform Expansion, Integrating Vital Water Information on Client Dashboards for Fact-Based Decision-Making

By combining flow, gallons pumped, surface-water level, security and environmental information, among a nearly unlimited array of water data types, Wellntel clients are now able to report and share actionable, real-time metrics with their teams and stakeholders, and to improve their sustainability efforts.

The resulting Water Information System is the first of its kind.

Able to ingest and quickly organize massive quantities of data (and store when necessary), managers have facts at their fingertips with which to make smart decisions.

Nearly any time-series dataset can be brought to this innovative reporting and decision-support tool. For example,

  1. Water information once thought to be ephemeral — that is, tracked in a process automation or SCADA system for momentary control and then deleted — can now be securely transmitted and stored indefinitely, as part of an operating record.
  2. Information collected in the past — by technicians or instruments, can be assembled and geospatially positioned in minutes to expand the time horizon used in reports and plans.
  3. Compliance reporting — an expensive burden for many water-dependent organizations — can now be streamlined and simplified, taking cost and complexity out of the process, while improving the result.

These capabilities are both BRAND and ARCHITECTURE agnostic – for example, we are ingesting and permanently storing data from many sources including flow meters, pressure transducers, surface water instruments, seismic instruments and even manual observations. With these new data types, subscribers can elect to use real-time analytics in our dashboard, or seamlessly connect all or part of the information to their models. 

Importantly, Wellntel is not modeling in any way, nor do we have plans to start. Instead, we are working to speed processes and lower costs by automating the collection, assembly and basic presentation work, so that consultants, scientists and managers might massively increase the facts at their disposal when making recommendations or decisions.

About the Technology

With a seven-year track record in the deployment of highly secure and accurate telemetry-enabled groundwater-level networks, Wellntel has dramatically increased the speed and lowered the cost of raw data collection in the field, while bringing logic to the quality control process so that scientists and consultants can make trustworthy recommendations. By building on these methods, Wellntel has created a simple but highly secure protocol and robust warehousing infrastructure for data organization, storage, and sharing across networks. This means that any time-series water information from nearly any source can populate a dashboard in real or near real-time. 

Example One: 

In this example, an off-the-shelf process control system curates and delivers flow data (average gallons pumped in a water system) to a client’s Wellntel Analytics Dashboard, where it is combined with average groundwater network level data in order to demonstrate the influence of pumping on the nearby water table. By setting thresholds for normal and safe operation, the client is able to ensure compliance and operating efficiency.

Example Two:

And in this example, groundwater levels — both resting and while pumping — can be compared with surface water levels at a nearby stream, quantifying the hydrologic relationship between the resources. By tracking this relationship over time, groundwater pumping can be safely regulated to ensure both optimal production rates and surface water and ecosystem health. In this way, water producers can show that they are operating sustainably.

Data Types:

Currently, Wellntel’s Water Information System is ingesting and storing the following data types for clients:

  • Instantaneous Flow
  • Totalized Flow
  • Peak Flow
  • Average Flow (for a period)
  • Groundwater Elevation (Level)

Wellntel is also assembling and reporting on:

  • Daily rain summaries
  • Hourly precipitation
  • Historical statistics across all data types
  • Groundwater level in nearby monitoring locations

New data types and can be created in minutes. Common field computers can be programmed and credentialed to become data suppliers in a few hours or days. Telemetry methods are also agnostic: clients can use local internet, cellular, or spread spectrum pathways when infrastructure exists.
